A good crowd, two good baseball teams and a great ballgame.
That was the sight at Carson Park as the Eau Claire Cavaliers pitched their way to victory over the US Military All Stars by a final score of 4-3 in front of an announced crowd of 2150 people Tuesday evening.
The All Stars flexed their muscles early in a first the first inning, notching two runs off Cavaliers starter Ben Kincaid.
Juan Velasquez doubled off the right center field wall to score Karl Seiter from first base. Max Moya then singled to right field, scoring Velasquez.
Eau Claire’s offense was prepared, scoring all four runs in the bottom of the first.
Brad Archambeau scored on an infield single, then Lance Poppy doubled to right field, plating Ty Fadness and Kincaid. Kyle Trewyn hit a sacrifice fly to score Poppy.
Velasquez struck again in the third inning as he doubled off the center field fence, scoring leadoff hitter Bobby Andrews.
Eau Claire allowed just two hits and four base runners for the rest of the game, led by strong pitching performances from Kincaid, Brady Sand and Dale Kube.
Eau Claire gave the All Stars just their seventh loss of the season as they head to Green Bay to take on an All Star team from the Green Bay area.
Alex Burian went 3-for-4 with two RBI’s and Lance Poppy went 3-for-4 with one RBI to help the Eau Claire Cavaliers beat the Janesville Aces, 7-0, in the first game of the Wisconsin State League doubleheader Saturday in Janesville.
Janesville came back to win the second game 2-1.
Mark Shaver pitched a two-hit shutout in the opener for the Cavaliers (38-20,18-12 WSL).
Ty Fadness drove in Eau Claire’s lone run in game two.
Ben Kincaid hit a three-run home run in the first inning of game one, setting the tone for the Eau Claire Cavaliers in a Wisconsin State League doubleheader sweep of the Janesville Aces on Sunday.
The Cavs won 8-1 and 10-2, to improve their record to (40-20, 20-12 WSL).
Troy Peiffer went the distance in game one, allowing just four hits and striking out five. Kincaid finished with four RBI’s.
In game two, Kincaid and Brad Archambeau each drove in two runs for Eau Claire.
Phil Isaksson went five innings to pick up the victory, striking out four.
The Cavaliers close out their season with single games Tuesday August 4 against Augusta/Osseo at 7:30 PM. Wednesday the Cavaliers face the Menomonie Eagles at 7:30, which is Fan Appreciation Night with prize drawings. On Saturday the Cavaliers face the Marshfield Chaparrals at 1:00PM single game.
Sunday the Cavaliers host their 39th Annual Awards Luncheon at the Plaza Hotel with cocktail hour at 1:00 PM and dinner at 2:00 PM with program to follow. Cost for the luncheon is $13.00 for Adults and $8.15 for children 10 and under.
