Monday the Eau Claire Cavaliers brought out their bats in a 12-2 rout of the Marshfield Chaparrals. In the first inning Mike Darley hit a line drive to left-center field and centerfielder Justin Rayburn tried to make a diving catch and he missed and the ball rolled to the fence allowing three runs to score and Darley ended up with a triple. Darley finished two for four with three runs scored and 4-RBI’s. Ben Sebesta also doubled later in the inning after another attempt for a diving catch. Cavalier’s Pitcher Brady Sand (4-0) held the Chaps to two runs, scattering 6 hits while hitting one batter to earn the victory. The win was the Cavaliers 12th Straight since a loss to Westmont Red Sox in the first game of their series on July 10th to run their record to 31-12 and they finished 18-9 to finish in second place in the WSL.
The Cavaliers won a rain- shortened game with the Menomonie Eagles 7-3 before 300 fans Tuesday Night. Tony Kelly led the charge with two home runs to drive in 3 runs in the victory. Ben Sebesta also aided in the victory with a two run double in the first. Yoshinori Machida struggled but was able to earn the win to run the Cavaliers Record to 32-12.
The Cavaliers kicked off their 40th Season Reunion Weekend with a 6-4 victory over the Dairyland All Stars. Tanner Vavra was 3-3, scored 2 runs, driving in one and had a stolen base. Troy Peiffer earned the victory struggling through 5-2/3 innings striking out 10 but had 6 walks and continued to work out of jams. David Lenzen came in to pitch 3-2/3 innings in relief, by breezing through the seventh and eighth innings before hitting two batters in the ninth. Player coach RJ Page came in to earn his first save of the season. The game was played before a number of former players watching from the stands.
The Cavaliers rode a 7 run eighth inning to turn a close game into an easy win Saturday against the Exeland Braves as Cavalier Pitcher Cale Tassi and Exeland’s Joel Effertz squared off before the explosion in the eighth inning. Tassi pitched 5 innings allowing 2 hits, walking one, striking out 5 and allowing one run before developing a blister on his pitching hand. He was relieved in the top of the sixth by Makota Hirano who pitched 2 innings allowing one hit and striking out four. Jamie Soyk finished up to earn the save after the big eighth inning. Matt Miller had 2 hits including a double. Lance Poppy and Brad Archambeau each had three hits. The Cavaliers ran their record to 34-12.
The Cavaliers traveled to Exeland to take on the Braves in a single game Sunday. The Cavaliers came away with a 4-3 win in 12 innings. T.J. Wink earned the win while pitching 6 shutout innings in relief of Tyler Dierke. Ben Sebesta hit a home run, Ty Fadness had two hits and Matt Miller doubled to drive in the winning run. The Cavaliers improved their record to 35-12.
The Cavaliers close out their season at home with games against the Eau Claire Bears Thursday August 5th at 7:30, Friday August 6th vs Plover at 7:30, John Hoffland Memorial Softball Game Saturday August 7th at 2:00 PM at Gelein field. The Cavaliers close out their season August 11th vs the Osseo Merchants at 7:30 PM and it is Fan Appreciation Night.
