Press Release August 8, 2010 - 08/09/2010  07:31 AM

Thursday August 5 the Cavaliers scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to turn a 2-1 game into a 5-1 lead and held off the Eau Claire Bears in the top of the ninth after Jamie Soyk relieved Andy Kline to earn the save. The Cavaliers scored 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh after Brady Sand hit a high chopper to the shortstop and beat the throw to first to end Kelly Werner’s bid for a no-hitter. The next hitter Tanner Vavra bunted right back to Werner on the mound and he threw the ball into centerfield.  Matt Miller followed with a single to left to drive in 2 runs. Andy Kline pitched 8 innings allowing 5 hits and striking out 10 to earn the victory in front of 350 fans.

Matt Miller hit his first home run as a Cavalier to propel the Cavaliers to a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first inning against the Plover Pterodactyls Friday Night August 6th at Carson Park. T.J. Wink struggled in the first inning allowing two runs as he was all over the place, walking 2 and hitting a batter to allow two runs to score, then he settled down to strike out the side.  T.J. pitched a complete game walking three, allowing six hits and striking out 16.  Ben Sebesta hit a three run homer in the eighth inning giving T.J. some breathing room. T.J. continued his dominance allowing just five base runners after the first inning.  The runners never fazed him as he picked off two of them to end innings.  The Cavaliers ran their record to 36-12 before 275 fans. The Cavaliers have run 22 out of 23 since a loss to Westmont July10th and have won 17 in a row beating the 15 in a row they ran off last year. The Cavaliers longest winning streak was 20 games set in the early 90’s with Aluminum bats at that time.

The Cavaliers close out their season August 11th vs the Osseo Merchants at 7:30 PM and it is Fan Appreciation Night.  Prizes will be awarded and special prizes will be given to Season Ticket Holders but they must be present to win.

The Cavaliers will hold their 40th Annual Awards Banquet Thursday August 12 at the Green Mill Restaurant with cocktails starting at 6:00, dinner at 6:30 and program to follow.  Tickets are available at Carson Park Wednesday August 11 or you can reserve a spot by emailing pamillis@aol.com .
